Welcome to PsychCentral! I have to say that I've been on Geodon for several years and have never heard about specific caloric intake when taking it. As long as it's taken with solid food (i.e. meal or a snack) there shouldn't have been a problem, but for you there evidently was. Perhaps with gastric bypass it doesn't stay in your stomach long enough to be broken down, thus it not working. Just a thought.

But I'm glad that you are responding positively to Abilify. It's known to work well for many.
