I think a lot of posters here can relate to your question.
It was hard for me to start therapy and tell a complete stranger about my life. I liked my T immediately, but it took months of working together to build up trust.
IMHO, if you can find someone you like as a person, that is a good place to start. Trust will come in time. It is perfectly 'ok' to tell your T you are having a hard time trusting them.
Are you currently seeing a therapist, or are you in the process of finding one?
