I still don't have any tattoos yet. I just wanted my kids portaits on my back. My bf has some tattoos. He just had 3 of them colored in. He has also had a few removed. He told me that hurts worse then getting the tattoo.
From looking at your pictures of your husband, he doesn't seem like the type to get a tattoo at all let alone his butt. I could never go into a place and just drop my pants. lol
I would also say that he is lucky that it's a "V" or he probably would have had some laser remove it for him.
