I dont understand how therapists get away with abusing clients emotionally. My last therapist was emotionally abusive and I didnt even see it until he got mad at me for being suicidal and decided to basically ostracize me. Its a sick abuse of power and they just get away with it, because clients are too afraid to file a complaint due to the fact that therapists word is always going to be taken over a clients. From reading this discussion thread, I've noticed that it is entirely too common for this kind of thing to happen. How is this so over looked? Neglecting and emotionally hurting a client causes the same amount of damage is sexually exploiting a client, so why arent they seen as equal forms of abuse? every time I think of my former therapist, I feel sick. I have nightmares about him all the time and its really had a negative effect on my mind and he gets to just get away with it, he probably doesnt even see that what he did to me is wrong. Im terrified to find another therapist, I thought the last really cared about me, but he just sat and judged me the whole time. I'll never be able to trust another mental health proffessional.
