Unfortunately you probably can't help but be sad. That shouldn't stop you from trying to live in the present and distract yourself as much as possible. But when you lose (or change) a relationship you care about you are going to feel hurt and sad. So give yourself time to feel your feelings, have a good cry and then get back into the present and being good to yourself. When it builds up too much, do the same thing all over again. Over time, you will heal from this hurt.
