You must have been reading my posts too. My allergies are so bad to almost EVERY med, not just the psychotropic ones either however they seem to be the worst.
I have reactions to Codine, penicillin, Keflex, benedryl, aspirin, reglan, compazine, foradil, albuterol, migraine meds, & yes, the antidepressants, just to name a few.....lol if that is just a few....yes, I am in trouble because it is the family of drugs I have problems with. My reactions are so bad that I CAN'T take them because the reactions are so severe that it is dangerous. I get the strange reactions that are down at the bottom of the list & even the Drs aren't familiar with the reactions.
I was in the hospital with a bad asthma attack a year ago (an alergy to the smoke from a huge brush fire close to home). They gave me a new drug that was supposed to be SO MUCH BETTER....yea, my throat got swollen & lost my voice.....don't know how much it affected my breathing cause it was already bad.....ended up 5 extra days in the hospital trying to figure out what was the problem....yes, looked up about the med when I got home & that was an uncommon reaction...lucky me. When I was in the hospital the beginning of this year, they use a local when they put in a PICC line (for nutrition). My are got all swollen & hot.....they said it was a reaction to the local (novicane or lidocane).
The parkinsons reaction to Thorazine, compazine, reglan, was something that hit me at home. After experiencing the symptoms for a few days, I went to the ungent care & they suggested a possible reaction to the compazine...followed up with my neurologist because it wasn't going away & he continued taking away the other meds until the symptom finally went away. It took so long for it to go away, I thought it might really be the desease.....very scarry.
I just started going to my GP a year ago & he has gone through some of these horrible side effects/allergies. He also is now afraid to perscribe any meds. My pdoc has gone through the same things with me & once we found seroquel that hasn't had a side effect yet, we are satisfied to stick with it for the now. My pain specialist is the one taking care of my migraines & so far, the Fentynal is working just fine. Praying that nothing will go wrong with that med because I would hate to have to go back living with migraines daily.
I am always afraid when a Dr wants me to try a med. I don't want to look up the side effects to start, afraid that I will experience it & they will think I am making it up. It is scarry when a Dr gave me benydryl to stop the itching from the burns of the bededyne under my leg cast & I woke up not being able to breathe at night after taking it.
My reactions are such that I have to stop the meds...It isn't a matter of living with the side effects here.
