Well - I had a counselor in college for many years. He was not qualified to give me a DX. But he helped save my life in many ways. He was college funded - so the tuition paid for services. Man was I thankful for the teacher who set me up with seeing him. I would have had no idea that service was available to me as a student!

Now I have a T. He is qualified to make DX. And he acts a little different... the counselor could tell me stuff about what he did over the weekend if I asked him about it first. That was not crossing any lines. But T is brisk about answers of a personal nature and sends the focus back to me.
