- Human interactions and relationships are essential to well-being.
- Negative emotions serve positive survival needs, yet they can get out of control; our younger "rational brain" continually struggles with our primordial "emotional brain," producing much of the pain, joy and interest in life.
- Recent research suggests "we often incorrectly predict what will bring us greater happiness"; "meditation, compassion, forgiveness and altruism" tend to foster positive emotions.
