Scented tampons have been around for quite awhile too and are generally tested (like cosmetics and other products that can be readily absorbed by your body and are in contact with body fluids) and are "safe" but not necessarily ideal; like salukigirl says, would depend on your personal experiences and allergies, etc. "Scent" isn't in itself toxic, all items, including pills/medicine have "inactive" ingredients and some of those are going to cause problems for some people; I just changed one of my meds because of its inactive ingredients rather than the med itself. It's chemicals, just like food :-)

However, if it worries or bothers you, just get different ones the next day (or go to another store?).
