UP here most GP's who have decided to do counselling as their primary form of practice, don't provide physical medical care. My addictions Dr., is a family Dr. with additional training in addictions and all she does is therapy - she'll prescribe some psych meds for cases that are straightforward, but she doesn't do any physical care, and if your psych needs are really complicated she refuses to manage them as they're outside her training.
