Relaxation techniques practiced regularly combat this. By keeping adrenalin levels low through the regular relaxation techniques, when something comes along to raise the adrenalin level it doesn't go so high. The techniques also give us skills to use in the moment when we begin to feel stressed, from focusing on breathing to grounding ourselves to things like walking meditation.
This is a great area to explore.
