In my experience it can come back even after a long period of level.
I would second and third the advice already give here. It is important when the depression tempts you again to kick the self care up a few notches. Taking extra time for relaxation and meditation works well for me. Acknowledging what is happening and rather than feeding it with worry I think it is important to muster the extra strength to give myself a break and give myself some quality care and lovin'.
