Have you ever heard about the "love languages"? Everyone shows love differently. My husband likes to get things for me to show he loves me, I like to do things for others to show I love them. Some people like to give (and recieve) praise for little things. There are several others, but I can't remember them all off the top of my head. It can get frustrating when two people speak different love languages. Not impossible for them to get along, they just need to understand that they speak different languages.
