All these Dooms Day" predictions are coming from people who either don't belong to the culture or want to capitalize on the story in one form or another. Spreading fear is a common tactic to gain an audience and to gain control/power. Look at all those people scrambling at the end of the century ten years ago, fretting over the end of the world and partying like it was 1999. 
I could die in a cataclysmic event in two years - so could you. It could also happen next week - or fifty years from now. For everyone living in this world today, one thing is for certain...we'll all die one day. This fact shouldn't change anything you are doing today or the goals you have set for your future. If you have nothing else to do, you can turn on some music and party like it's 2013.
