It is an end to a world age for the Mayan. It is their calendar and their calendar continues on after 2012. Some people are trying to use it as a money making scheme. I have researched this because of my fear and the actual event it is actually suppose signify happened in 1999. People need to respect other cultures and not try to make them something they aren't.
