Dennis....
It's all a bunch of bunk!!
I'm sure the military are preparing for the "end of the world" so to speak...but I don't believe the world will end in 2012.
Really...the folks that feed into this are doing it for many resons. For some, it is a spiritual/religious belief, for others it is political. But regardless who it comes from, they are all feeding off the fear and using those scared folks for their own gain.
Think about it...if enough folks become so terrified that the world will end in 2 years, what's bound to happen? More folks will stay home and hoard supplies, build shelters, stop traveling, etc. Which means more $$ being spent in their own home countries and less $$ given to other countries through tourism (attempts to stabilize Governments). And, more folks will turn to Religion out of fear...and Religion always likes to make more $$.
The history of the Mayan Calendar, along with the science and understanding of Astrology shows that it is merely the end of the "Age" that is coming. Around 2012 (or 2100-depending on whose research your looking at), the Earth is said to be moving out of it's current "Age" and into the Age of Aquarius. Certain folks use this as propaganda to instill fear into the minds of humanity...for personal gain.
Yes...the Earth does have a life cycle, as do humans, but I don't see an end coming to either one in the next two years. That is..unless enough people freak out over the propaganda and we end up self-destructing as a species.
Be well!!
P.S. The Government's of the world like us to be afraid of future annihilation. If we are to busy living in fear of tomorrow, we're not paying attention to what is going on today....like Healthcare, A war on Terror that can never be won, and the fact that we are not as prepared as we think for any sort of natural disaster anywhere (i.e. Hurricane Katrina, Earthquake in Haiti).
