I haven't used tampons for years. I have one of these: http://www.mooncup.co.uk

They're so great, no panicking when there's no bin in the ladies, and no blocked toilets after you've chucked your tampon down there.

Awesome invention, has saved me so much money too!

(For those of you in the UK, you can get these from most Boots stores)
