I can hear what you're saying. I had a friend at university who had been in a bad car accident and broke his back. He was good looking and a brave guy, but his life was changed.
He would get friendships with girls but he hated getting the 'sympathy' from them. He was still a proud guy. He preferred to be single.
A couple of years later I worked with young disabled people and some of them were in wheelchairs. This was different, and there were some full on relationships, and a marriage.
I could never advise you myself, as I am not in your position (although I have different problems). My feeling is that you are more likely to get a genuine relationship with someone who knows about the challenge that you face, and is not afraid of it.
