Well yes I actually do think guns protect people. If I had not had a handgun ten years ago I am quite certain I would not be here to respond to your post.  My son would have grown up without a mother. And who would be posting all the cat pics on Psychcentral without Yoda? 
Owning a gun is a personal decision. I want one. If somebody else doesn't want one then they should not have one.
