Toddlers and Tierras
I just heard the "Samba Queen" for Carnival in Brazil is only 7 years old. For those who don't know, the "Samba Queen" is typically paraded out front almost naked in order to "get the party started." She dances most of the day/night to keep everyone drinking dancing and falling in love/lust. In the past, the Samba Queen was a consenting adult woman who didn't mind dancing nude, if necessary.
There was much criticism, but a judge there recently ruled it was okay for this little girl to perform. Her parents run a dance studio and claim to know what they are doing.
There is also MUCH criticism of this over here in the U.S., saying we would NEVER exploit our children in that manner.
Has anyone seen the TLC show "Toddlers and Tierras" or attended any beauty pageants for little girls? From what I've seen, these toddlers over here are dancing and performing in the exact same manner as that little "Samba Queen" in Brazil.
What's the difference? What's the purpose? Should we consider what we do over here harmless entertainment?
Do you think the friends and families of our toddler beauty contest winners would be thrilled if their little girl was chosen as the next "Samba Queen" for Rio's celebrations?
