Thank you for your question. DID is brought on by trauma where one cannot deal with what is happening. It is usually developed early and it is of one or more distinct personalities that have their own identities. Children develope DID when the mind knows no other way to survive what is going on. When a child is put in extreme situations where there is no way they can think or understand what is happening to them.
Drugs that cause you to dissociate are not causing you to develope into other personalities. A child does not know how to reason with what is taking place nor do they know how to survive during these times. They will often leave themselves so that they can be safe and this is when another personality steps in so that the child finds safety within.
DID is not something anyone developes it comes when one cannot deal with that which is taking place. An adult has a mind and has had time to be able to figure out things and learn things that a child has never had the chance to learn. As an adult, we can withstand much more than a child who has no way to connect or the ability to connect to what is happening. Many times this starts very early before the mind has even developed.
This is only my thoughts and what I know to have happend to me. Seeing the DMV lists the criteria for DID. I think looking into asking your doctor or t would be the way to go. Again this is only my opinion from what I have learned. Thank you for asking.
