The worst thing that my Mother did when I seperated with my partner was to tell me that she thought he was weird and never liked him - she actually meant it. Another thing was to tell me that I'm stronger than that and to stop crying and get on with life....Telling me that I didn't need anti-depressants was wrong too - I had to do what was right for me. She wasn't trying to be harsh but it came out that way.
The best thing that she did was just be there for me, hold me when I cried and try to be supportive.
