There have been times when life has been extremely tough for me. I've come to realize that indeed life CAN be tough sometimes but we can learn from those experiences. I also find, if I just accept that it's going to be rough for a while - this makes it easier and more tolerable. Accepting doesn't mean you give up trying to make things better - it just means you're not going to resist and complain about it. I think most people think they're supposed to be happier and when it doesn't turn out that way, we feel discouraged. Another important point is you can find little bits and pieces of happiness, even when you're going through a rough time. you can exercise this skill by saying to yourself - "even though things are hard right now, I'm still grateful for.............." If you hate your life - think about what things you have the power to change and write them down. If you can't change some things, then again you can practice 'acceptance'. I found comfort in the Serenity Prayer:
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
