I was a member of Peta for years and rarely did their petitions go anywhere. They are just considered too radical for most.

I do urge people to help the animals of katrina. If you can (I know a lot of us are not in good financial situations), donate to best friends animal society (http://www.bestfriends.org/) or the La SPCA (www.la-spca.org). I prefer Best Friends as they are no-kill.

I have been told that you can hear the barking of dogs all over the semi abandoned city. People have left their animals tied up outside and trapped in buildings.
