I took Abilify back in August and September of '09. I was in the midst of a highly hypomanic or manic episode and it did nothing to calm me down. If anything, I was higher on it, so the doc took me off after I got up to 10mg a day. Who knows. I'm on so many meds, maybe just the combo was wrong. Now that I'm in a depressive episode, I kind of wish I could get that lightning in a capsule back.

All the atypical anti-ps have the risk of tardive dyskinesia. As far as I've read, if you discontinue them at the first sign of any uncontrollable muscle movements, the problem is usually reversible. Sometimes not, but it's very rare to get it to begin with.

Now I'm on Geodon and with my other meds, it seems to be helping to balance me out. I've been on practically every atypical and my two favorites are Geodon and Abilify. I didn't gain weight on any of the atypicals. In fact, I've lost 7 pounds since the summer.

Good luck to you. I hope you find a combo that helps you.
