Altzhiemers is a very sad thing......I went through it with my Grams. She was always a problem personality person....so when the altzhiemers progressed to the point where anyone in the family was willing to notice, she was violent & paranoid. She would think my Gramps was someone breaking into the house & would hit him with her cane.....she had completely lost her cognative abilities before anyone was willing to listen to me & have a Dr Dx her & have her deamed incompetent. It finally got to the point that I had to push my Mother to do anything about her mother (my grandma).
I am glad you are at the point where you can still relate to your Mother. It is important to soak in all the good times you can & savor the good memories.
I know that at the end of my Mothers life, she too had lost her cognative abilities & it was tough to deal with because it came so suddenly.....in my Mothers case it was the cancer that spread to her brain (of possibly a stroke).....what ever the cause, it looked like the symptoms of altzhiemers.
If you ever need to talk about anything, I would be glad to share what I can to hopefully provide support.....you are going through a very rough time that will only get harder.
My prayers are with you & your Mother,
Debbie
