Definitely not a stupid thing to say. I can relate - I personally believe that I unintentionally (and intentionally, sometimes) "zone out" as a defense mechanism to avoid issues in my life. When I was on medication it was a LOT worse. Whenever this happens, I try to focus on something, whether it be a television show or my breathing. It helps to "ground" me back into reality.
