I have ADHD. I was diagnosed months ago, though I've known it for years. It just got too difficult for me to deal with. I couldn't apply for the position of teacher leader that I needed to in order to keep my position at the school. Consequently, I lost my existing position at work. I still work, but, do not have my own classroom after 24 years of teaching.
I am very sensitive to medications. For example, if a med normally calls for 300 mg, (welbutrin, that I take for SAD), I take 100 mg. If I take more, I get panic attacks. It was years of trial and error before my doc and I understood that I cannot take "normal" doses, and I've been very cautious ever since. I tell every doctor about it, and we start slow and build up only if needed. Usually, I do not need to do so.
So, when my new pdoc said the dose of generic adderal that I was on was high, I was surprised. I take 10 mg, three times a day - one at @ 6 am; another @ 11:30 am; and the third @ 3 pm. This allows me to function through the day, and still sleep at night.
My old pnurse who diagnosed me and started me on the generic adderal, started me on 10 mg once a day. Then, we added another 10 - one in the am; one in the pm, @ 12. But, I was still unable to function effectively after school; to do school required work and my home chores. That's when we added the third, and it's been working out well for me. But, she left for another job, and the new pdoc took over. He was surprised that my other doses of meds were so low, and said that the adderal was high.
I asked him why that would be. I told him how it came to be, and how it's working for me. His answer was that I must have a "truly adhd brain that is using the meds as intended, and I must also metabolize it fast."
So, my question to you is this.
If you are on adderal, or the generic version of it, what dose are you on?
Do you think 30 mg - spaced out at 10 mg, 3 times a day - is a high dose?
My old pnurse never said anything. Neither did my regular doctor.
Thanks for any input.
Peace!
