Duragesic patches are usually prescribed for severe pain. The patch is placed on the body and absorbed by the body all over--it is not a "local" pain patch. It is in the "C2" category which requires a careful prescription. If your doctor first prescribed Darvocet, I am really not sure s/he would jump to something on the order of a C2 narcotic. I still think your doctor would consider Vicodin/LorTab/Norco. (All name-brands/strengths of a great pain reliever--hydrocodone with acetaminophen.) Some people are sensitive to the narcotic effects (feeling spacey, etc), even at the lower strengths, but some just find pain relief and/or drowsiness. If you have a sensitive stomach, take with food. Always be careful when you take doses. You may want to write down the date & time when you take the medication to help you remember.
