Thank God for you. Your friend is so lucky to have you. So many people just give up on people when they go to jail. My husband has been in jail for four years. For two years first, then he was in a half-way house for two months, then he went back to jail. I haven't seen him for two years, because he is so far away and we have no transportation. But I write him all the time and we get to talk on the phone every so often. It's $4 for 15 minutes. Anyway, the rest of his family won't even try. His brother, whom he was so close to hasn't wrote him back or answered the phone for a year now. And their going to want to hang out when he gets out, and he'll forgive him for losing touch....It makes me angry, because I've been here for him this whole time, not like I wouldn't have though and he's been a huge support to me too. I'm glad your friend has you and you have him.

Just a little story of success.... My husband is an ex meth addict. If he hadn't gone to jail, he probably would have died from it. He overdosed so many times and almost had his arm amputated, because he was using a needle. It's so hard to go through my own struggles on my own and for him to be gone, but it is what was best for him, and what was best for our relationship. I have to be thankful, because I probably would have lost him completely if he had continued on the road he was on. To lose him for just a few years, it's worth it to know he'll never go back to that drug, and to know I won't have to worry about losing him to it, not to mention dealing with him high, ugh....
