Hey Melinda,

Since you are worried about the legality of what you are doing with the ex's computer, I suggest this.....keep records of all phone calls/email's (have copies of phone bill's and emails) you have made to get this taken care of. If you have no response, or a response but they don't follow through on getting you the money to ship it, then I would call the Salvation Army to come and pick it up.

You can also call an attorney to see what the law says in your state about stuff like this.....initial calls are usually free to the attorney's.
