I think you may have had recent experiences where you were reminded of your mother's traits you don't like and either were thinking you don't have/want those traits or were worried that you do. That or you could have had the opposite thought/experience where you saw some of your mother in someone's/your own good traits and were afraid that meant you had her bad ones also or in some other way you wanted to deny "being like your mother".

Lots of traits are inherited and/or learned but none "belongs" to a specific person. You cannot turn into your mother, but you also are like your mother because you are of her flesh and blood. It's hard learning how one fits in the world and who one "is" and our dreams are there to help us stay balanced. Usually dreams like yours are to "remind" you that the opposite of whatever you were feeling is just as true, so you "balance". You might have been feeling really independent or "superior" in some way, overly proud of yourself and thinking you had done something all by yourself but that's never really the case; there are no self-made people, we constantly have influences and helps from our background and current experiences. Being overly/underly proud or self-satisfied will get us a dream in the "opposite" direction to keep us whole and balanced. That's a dream's job!
