Yeah I moved out of home when I was 17, so it will be 5 years in December that I've been on my own.
My mother was abusive and neglected me too, although I was so used to it that it didn't actually occur to me until she said it herself. She is a lot better than she used to be, she has been in rehab and our relationship is a lot better. She is the only person who abused me that I forgive, because she fully acknowledges what she did without hesitation, we can talk about it without any drama (although there is awkwardness). She admits to being an alcoholic, she admits to drug abuse, she admits to neglecting me, even she said herself that if child welfare had seen how we lived I would have been gone in a second.
My mother was abused by my grandfather while she was growing up (he is the person who beat me up when I was 15) and has been an alcoholic since she was 15, so it's no surprise at all that she ended up the way she did.
