Personally, I don't live alone. But if I did and for some reason wanted an answering machine, I'd probably record a message like 'this is the Jones (or whatever my last name was) residence,' rather than identify myself as a woman living alone. There are a lot of creeps so I wouldn't want to advertise that. However, most households have female residents, so I doubt I'd feel very anxious having my voice on an answering machine. I also don't go handing my number out randomly either.
