Justdontknow is absolutely right on. I have an alter named David who, although he is a part of me, is a part that carries many of the mannerisms and abusive tendencies that my Father had towards me. It's not necessarily a part that serves a protective purpose per se, but a part that serves to tear down the system and keep us stuck. I've heard they can be some of the most difficult parts to manage.

Thanks for the info. I was just diagnosed in March of '09 myself and I'm stuck in this pattern of keeping myself in crisis mode so I don't have to deal with issues. I never realized this until recently, how much the system (me/us) has sabotaged things to a degree, in an effort to protect ourselves from the pain.
