I too was DXed and treated for major depression,by my GP 4 yrs before I had been DXed with Bipolar-II(mild) after a major life disturbance. Soooooooo, I personally feel a pdoc is the one to see, I kind of feel I had wasted time, pills, fear, during the time I felt my GP had a handle on things, perhaps had I first went to a pdoc or therapist, I may have gotten proper meds and therapy, then to have melted down into further depths of a mental disorder.

Just my personal feelings on this, pertaining to myself.
I cannot stress enough to have a pdoc evaluate you and prescribe the meds if needed. Gp's are good for common health ailments but are not licensed or qualified to make any psychiatric assessments.

Take care now,
DE
