I don't want to encourage dishonesty, but no one said you had to tell them you were in therapy. A lot of my family and friends don't have any idea that I am currently seeing a psychologist. Also, I am seeing someone for free through my college campus. The college has a "counseling services" office with several licensed psychologists that will see students for free. There are also services I can take advantage of (most of them are more short-term/crisis oriented though) since I am a military spouse and my husband is currently deployed. So I would think of any categories you might fit into, such as "student" or "military wife" or "single mom" etc. and usually there are services that are free or for a reduced fee for those categories of people. I hope that makes sense. I am pretty sure my sister has also seen therapists for free at times through her social worker and other public programs like DCFS and things like that.
