I went back and saw Dr. Baker (my surgeon) on Friday and he said I have to stay with my parents one more month. He said old habits die hard he was worried I would start smoking again if I went home. I think he is smart because that is something I was concerned about too but I am working with Dr. M about that. I guess I just have more time to work on that.
He wasn't real happy with the way home health had done my bandage. I guess they had overlapped on my skin and they way my wound vac works you can't overlap on the skin so he was angry at my home health nurse. My mom felt bad because she felt guilty because she said she wasn't in the room when the nurse was doing my bandage. My mom and I have the same problem of people pleasing. I never realized how much alike we were in that area until Friday. They said I am healing well though and I am hoping that by the time I go back in June maybe I will be able to get rid of
my wound vac.
On my right foot my big toe kept getting ingrown and this time it was infected. I pressed down on where it was ingrown and some puss came out so back to the doctor I went. I was already on an antibiotic so that was a good thing but he did a minor procedure where he took part of toe nail off all the way down to the cuticle and into it so it won't grow back. I don't know why but for some reason it hurt worse on this toe that it did on my left foot and he only did one side this time. I ended up having to call him and get some stronger pain meds than I had on hand. So I felt like a wimp, I even considered going back on my crutches for a short time. I decided against that though because it is such a hassle being on those. It hurts to walk on it for long periods of time so I try to limit my walks to short walks.
For mother's day I am cooking my mom supper. It is kind of hard to surprise my mom with a gift if she has to take me to the store and plus I think she would appreciate this more anyway. So Monday is her meal. I am making Chicken Kiev, 7 layer salad and garlic parmesan cresent rolls. The Chicken kiev comes already made all you have to do is put it in the oven. We got some last week to try it out on dad to make sure he would like it and he said he did so we went back to Aldi's and got some more. I think I have mom sold on Aldi's their stuff is so cheap and for the most part good quality. The 7 layer salad is a favorite spring salad of ours it has lettuce, peas, cheese, hard boiled eggs and a mayo type dressing. The cresent rolls are very easy you just take the cresent rolls in the tube and roll them out and put butter on them and sprinkle parmesan cheese and garlic seasoning on them. Then you separate them and bake according to directions. They are a favorite in our family also. W try to keep the stuff for those on hand. My dad's birthday is the day after Mother's day so I told him instead of buying him a gift that I would make him any dessert he wanted and he chose suicide chocolate cake so that is what he is getting. I finally found the recipe that sounds close enough to what he told me it is. To me it sounds like a tummy ache waiting to happen so bring on the tums.
