I'd feel empowered if I did it in person or on the phone, even though I've been told that the best way of communicating with this person is through e-mail. Right now I'll settle for being pleased. Normally I would have put it off till the last minute so he wouldn't have a chance to say anything even if he wanted to, or not say anything and let him call the shots and fume about it forever afterwards.
