There are steps people can take to address this issue such as vote yes for local and state inititives that provides mental health services, provide feedback to your company's benefits programs whenever you can asking for better coverage for mental health services, push back on schools to consider spending security dollars for mental health employees instead of more locks and metal detectors.

I think that there are communities out there who are making differences - it would be good to hear about their efforts.
