Oh Sarah,
You reminded me of my migraines (or one huge migraine that lasted years) several years ago before my pain specialist found the med that releived them. I remember having to lay in bed with no light, no sound, & especially no smells. I just layed in bed with my head pounding, sicked than one could ever imagine....& not being able to even live. I would lay there between ER visits every 3 days for demerol shots of 200mg.....& of course I was "drug seeking"......when I couldn't make them realize that I was only "pain relief seeking". Finally about 3 years ago I finally found a pain specialist that was willing to go up against the DEA & prescribe me the amount of Fentynal that finally rcompletely eleived my migraines for the last 3 years.
I can really understand the relief you are enjoying right now.....I don't think that there is a better feeling than when the migraine goes away. To be quite honest I am not sure that the med actually stops the migraines from occuring, but I don't feel them so I don't know if they are there really there & I just don't feel them or that they are really stopped.
I know my pain specialist had an MRI done on my brain & they found what was called white spots or leisons.....he explained that leisions are an indication that I had serious migraines. It is kinda scarry to know that there are leisons in my brain that are similar to those caused by a stroke....that migraines also cause.
I hope your relief is for quite a while......there isn't a better feeling than the relief after having a migraine......I love the pain specialist I have now....he is the only one that has been willing to make sure that I have my "quality of life back". Which is true since I have been able to ride my horses daily & stay out of the ER permanently for pain control. I have been his poster child for migraines being treated with narcotics (duragesic fentynal patches). I wasn't able to take the migraine meds for the side effects they caused my heart to experience.
I hope you can find someone to help you get a control of your migraines so that you aren't constantly in fear of it coming back & landing in a dark, quite room for the rest of your life.
Enjoy your respite....& hope it continues....from a fellow migraine sufferer,
Debbie
