I may be just babbling here because I don't know the specifics of the situation...
I do understand that sometimes "jumping the gun" may ruffle things, when maybe comments were not really meant or were misunderstood.
However just "walking away" could also be bad because maybe then you might never realize that those comments were misunderstood and may end up stuck to you as "the truth" when in reality some discussion might shed some light on the issue.
All in all I think it is good to share your feelings... I've never seen you be nasty to someone "in the heat of the moment" so I don't think that is a problem you have to worry about... it is always just about sharing how you feel which in my book is AOK.
If there are things that I don't understand that you think you need to "walk away" from sometimes I hope you will try to just get the space you need rather than "walk away" completely... because there's no room for "making up" and feeling better again if you just walk away.
Unless you are talking about someone who is just being nasty to you... in which case, yes, don't upset yourself, just listen to your other friends here. (like me
