Recently Michelle421 started a thread entitled, ‘Benefits of being multiple’, which inspired this thread. Though we are not together any longer, I once was in a relationship with a woman with DID and though there were challenges, there were also aspects of the dynamic that I considered benefits. And so, here is my list of ‘benefits of being with a multiple’.
  • You have a ready-made family. Though there were some doubters who were not all that sure about me in the beginning, for the most part I inherited a family who loved me.
  • There was always a kid to play with. I love children and I’m pretty good at getting in touch with that part of myself. Most adults, in my opinion, take themselves way too seriously. I have degree’s in both math and physics, a successful career, am a published author etc. but never did lose the ability to enjoy coloring or swinging on a swing set. When I wanted to play, I always had a playmate.
  • I look at things uniquely and understanding my point of view is often challenging and anti-intuitive. Usually there was someone who could understand me and help explain my point of view to everyone else.
  • Conversely, I often have a hard time understanding others points of view, and there always seemed to be someone around to help me see it from another perspective.
There are more I know, feel free to add some. Some I left out because of time…others because they might not be appropriate, but still real.
