I have worked shifts, nights, afternoons and mornings for a long time. My problem was the early morning shift, starting work at 6.00AM I felt tired the rest of the day. The worst problem is having meals at the wrong times. As Harriette mentioned, our body clock is set to daytime. However the subconscious compensates by making the best of the sleeptime you have. Some people need less sleep than others. Have a nap when you feel tired, or just close your eyes and relax. That helps me a lot.
