Seeker, if you know the name of the guy, I would consider contacting EBay to explain what happened. While I do not use EBay, I understand there is some sort of honesty/reliability thing. He at least deserves a black mark.

One more thing, investigating with Ebay may disclose he sold the guitar for more. I understand you do not like confrontations but this guy is a crook, and may be guilty of a theft crime.
