Either your state has different laws, or that hospital was breaking the law. In Wisconsin, if a person harms themself or even
threatens to harm themself, they have to be held for 72 hours for a pysch evaluation; if the person does not have insurance the hospital is required to send them by ambulance to a county or state hospital. After the 72 hour hold, if the pdoc wants them to stay longer and they refuse, they go to court and they have to prove they are stable enough to be released. If they are not med compliant it is very rare that the judge will release them. I guess I would suggest that you try to find out more about the laws in your area regarding these issues. You might also be able to try to become your daughter's legal medical guardian, although I think that can be difficult. Take care, and I hope she will seek help of her own volition soon!!
