All those little things most people might not even consider - fingernails, biting, just plain not being careful - I wonder if most self-injurers do them but don't usually mention it. I do too, and always have as long as I can remember. That stuff can seem like it's no big deal, but I think it would be a lot harder to quit than cutting. It's more pervasive, and ongoing. It's like a representation of generally feeling self-destructive, and it's so easy to do the little stuff - the only way to stop would be to actually change the attitude and want to treat yourself nicely, and that's scary to me anyway.
