It would seem that he is on company time and the company should cover the cost but I am not an attorney. Several years ago when I was attending a conference that my hospital paid me to attend my manager mentioned that we would be covered by workman's comp while at the conference and while traveling. Perhaps his boss is uninformed and your husband should talk to somebody at the company. Glad nobody has serious injuries.
