why not go ahead and message him? he may get it sent to his email or he may not, but you have nothing to lose by trying. i think it's better to give it a shot then always wonder if anything could have come of it. i had a friend when younger and we were both too shy to really pursue the other and we missed out. i wish i had been a little more forward as he would have been a great first boyfriend.
