Gee, Rhiannonsmoon, that sounds like a real toughy! Sounds like it definitely is related to when you hit your head as a kid. Would it be possible to see a regular doctor or neurologist? Sounds like you have some brain damage going on rather than a "simple" sleep disorder. I would go just talk to some doctors, not worry about a sleep study too soon.
Have you actually hurt yourself or someone else when you were sleeping? Do any medicines help at all? If you just toss and turn and cuss people out, I would maybe have your partner start with sleeping on the couch and move into the bedroom later in the morning if you get all right around then. I have a friend whose husband sleeps in another room because she's a windmill when sleeping. But I'd definitely talk to a doctor at least, see if anything can be learned from simple tests?
